Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes within broad parameters.

They use cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources and transfer their knowledge to others, and creative or conceptual skills to express ideas and perspectives or respond to complex problems.

Course Overview

Entry requirement

To enroll in Australian Skills Academy RPL process, candidates will be required to demonstrate that they have extensive management experience.  This may be done through a written submission, telephone interview or reference from relevant personnel and various other workplace documents.

BSB51915 Diploma in Leadership and Management or other relevant qualification

OR with vocational experience but without formal supervision or management qualification.

Credit/Advance Standing/RPL

Our college recognises the skills and knowledge that students may have gained through previous studies, workplace and life experience. They may be entitled to gain recognition of prior learning before or after commencing the course that may exempt them from attending one or more units. Students who believe they already have the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency can request a copy of the RPL application form. Students are provided with information regarding the evidence required for each qualification and must provide valid, sufficient, current and authentic evidence to demonstrate competency. RPL is based on a portfolio and interview approach, where students accept the main responsibility for identifying, gathering and submitting evidence about their achievement of the competencies. The RPL process may involve a practical demonstration assessment too.

Course Outline

Total number of units = 12

4 core units  plus

8 elective units, of which:

  • 4 elective units must be selected from the listed electives
  • 4 elective units may be selected from the listed electives or from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at Advanced Diploma level.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Unit of Competency

Australian Skills Academy can provide training and assessment services for all 33 units in the course. However, the RTO recommends the following electives as industry advisors inform us these units provide an excellent ‘coverage’ of the skills needed for senior management.
